GOOD NEWWZ REVIEW - Narendra Gupta

REVIEW

1) GOOD NEWWZ
 Rating : 3.5 /5
 Duration: 132 min.
 Producer : Hiroo Yash Johar,Aruna Bhatia,Karan Johar,Apoorva Mehta,Shashank   Khaitan.

(It is a story about two couples with the same surname “Batra” who undergo IVF treatment for parenthood and wait for their upcoming babies. Trouble starts when they come to know of the fact that the ladies get impregnated by each other’s husband’s sperm and all hell breaks loose!)

PLUS POINTS
1)Akshay Kumar (Housefull 4, Mission Mangal,Kesari) has nailed it again this time too as he tackles a sensitive subject with his exceptional comic timing. Diljit  Doshanjh (Arjun Patiala, Soorma, Welcome To New York, Phillauri, Udta Punjab) promises a good performance, while Kiara Advani (Kabir Singh, Machine, M.S.Dhoni:The Untold Story, Fugly ) seems to be following her own rhythm. Kareena Kapoor Khan( Veere Di Wedding,Udta Punjab, Ki & Ka) looks insanely beautiful and her acting too creats a good impact. Adil Hussain and Tisca Chopra are too good in their roles.

2)The film is a breath of fresh air. It promises a new plot in the universe of yawn-inducing repetitive content. Hats off to  director Raj for selecting a subject which is a taboo in the Indian society. Also, the very idea of showing two modern couples looking for progressive & scientific ways to have children is a break from the mundane bollywood movies. This comic caper has a bold touch. It is entertaining with witty content mixed with emotions, comedy, romance and drama in a way that everyone will enjoy. It has the right emotional quotient that keeps the viewers entertained throughout. The last 15 minutes will surely take you on an emotional ride.

3) Raj Mehta's debut directorial is a winner. The movie could have easily nose dived into a slapstick, cringe zone, but he made sure it does not. The movie also is miles ahead of Akshay Kumar's last release 'Housefull 4' in terms of humour.

4) Editing (Manish More) and  Screenplay (Jyoti Kapoor, Raj Mehta and Rishabh Sharma) are crisp, except for few scenes. Exotic locations appeal to the eye. The narration is very tight. Dialogues are quite bold & funny. Cinematography (Vishnu Rao) and other production values are of top standard.

5) Music Tanishk Bagchi, Rochak Kohli, Lauv,Lijo, George-DJ Chetas, Badshah, Manj Musik-Herbie Sahara, Sukhbir and Kshmr. ‘Sauda Khara Khara’ has got a peppy bhangra-pop vibe where singer Sukhbir resurfaces in the remake of his own chart-buster celebration number. “Laal Ghagra” which is again a remix is surely rocking and has the groove. The rest of the songs are passable. Music is strictly Punjabi.

MINUS POINTS:
1)The film is based on a modern fertility subject IVF ,which may not go well with the single screen audience as in India, certain section of masses are still stuck with the old traditional values.

2) Certain scenes are unrequired and could have been easily chopped off or better written. The bar scene between Akshay Kumar & Diljit Dosanjh where they suddenly get into an unreasoble argument in midst of their drinks was not needed. The same goes for Akshay Kumar when he escorts Kiara Advani to the washroom at his place, his laughter scene was unnecessary and no where in place.

3)The excessive melodrama that dominates the second half falls flat with a bit of exaggeration which dips the pace of the film and tighter editing, especially in the second half, was needed.

4)Inspite of making such a big budget movie, the tummies of pregnant Kareena Kapoor Khan & Kiara Advani looked like a fake padding, almost looking unreal.

BOX OFFICE:
Strong promotions has already created a lot of buzz among the people along with the advantage of vacation season. Keeping in  view the weak reviews and diminishing collection of “Dabangg-3” & “Good Newwz”, it is likely to do over 150 Cr collection and surely make 2019 Christmas special with bundles of laughter.

BOX OFFICE RATING: 4/5
