(Director Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat,a historical war drama set in the 18th century stars Arjun Kapoor,Kirti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles.The film is based on the Third Battle of Panipat, which took place between Maratha warrior Sadashivrao Bhau and Afgan king, Ahmad Shah Abdali)
PLUS POINTS:
1)Film has been shot on a very very lavish scale. Everything from the costumes (Neeta Lulla) to sets(Nitin Chandralant Desai )to locations , photography is very spectacular. 18th Century era has been depicted very beautifully.
2) Director(Ashutosh Gowariker) has done good research on the subject and has done a splendid job.Hats off to him for selecting a subject which depecits the loss of marathas ,which is rare as films makers mostly like to make glorified victory movies. Though he has taken some liberties like the charcter Abdali played by Sanjay Dutt was actually 39 yrs , wheras Sanjay Dutt is 60 yrs.
3)Story is unique and most of them are aware of the Panipat battle.Screenplay(Chandrashekhar Dhavalikar, Ranjeet Bahadur, Aditya Rawal, Ashutosh Gowarikar) is splendid.
4)All the actors (Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor, Kirti Sanon)have acted very well.Though, Sanjay Dutt has not delivered a single hit in his past few releases nor Arjun Kapoor has big fan following,.This being the biggest drawback in comparison with hit periodic films like” Jodha Akbar”,”Bajirao Mastani” &” Padmavat”, which had Hrithik Roshan & Ranveer singh.Too many supporting characters in the film makes the film too jumbled up, which could have been avoided.
MINUS POINTS:
1)Romantic track looks forced in the film. Chemistry between the lead pair is lacking. On the emotional front too, the film looks weak.
1)War scenes could have been better as they look the same like any other war movie.
2)VFX effects are not up to the mark.
3) All periodic dramas looks the same and ‘Panipat” is no different, which looks like cocktail of “Bajirao Mastani” & “Jodhaa Akbar”.
4) Film is too lengthy and need to be edited:(Steven Bernard) by 30 min at least.
5)Music(Ajay-Atul) is disappointing as there is no single hit number which is must for a patriotic film.
BOX OFFICE:. Being a historic subject ,it will be difficult for the film to get favor from the youth. There is hardly any stuff for the single screen and the masses. However, elite audience will love the film surely.To recover the huge cost, it will be an uphill task for the film.
