Starcast: Sanjay Mishra, Shikha Malhotra, Lalit Parimoo and Nareshpal Singh Chauhan
Rating : 3 stars
Kaanchli is based on a story by Vijaydan Detha, a folk story writer from Rajasthan. Many of his stories have already been adapted by filmmakers. Kaanchli is the story of a local village man Kishnu (Nareshpal Singh Chouhan) , who marries a beautiful desi girl Kajri (Shikha Malhotra). However a lot of men from the village are envious of him and how Kishnu’s wife falls prey to their devious methods.
Story: Kishnu always wanted to be socially known so he marries a woman who is very beautiful. When he arrives at his village all the men of the village start eyeing his wife. Thakur (Lalit Parimoo) comes with a lucrative offer and Kishnu falls for it. Thakur with his henchman Bhoja (Sanjay Mishra) plan to win Kajri. They try various methods and how Kajri fights them off and what happens later forms the crux of the story.
Acting: Shikha Malhotra as Kajri the rebellious wife of a simpleton is apt for the role and has managed to give a fair performance. Nareshpal Singh Chouhan is good and so are Lalit Parimoo and Sanjay Mishra. They look every bit the villagers. Costumes are apt to the culture and the background.
Direction: Dediya Joshii ‘s Kaanchi starts on a slow note but as the film goes further the film grips the audience. This is Dediya Joshii’s first film. He has managed to bring out the essence of a small village through the film. The Music adds to the film and nowhere does it hamper the story of the film. Cinematography of the film takes the film a notch higher.
On the whole Kanchli leaves a message for the audience. Those who have missed th film certainly need to spend their time at the theatre this weekend watching Kanchlii.
