Angrezi Medium Review - Johnny vaz

Movie Name: Angrezi Medium
Cast: Irrfan, Deepak Dobriyal
Director: Homi Adajania
Star: 4****

Angrezi Medium is director Homi Adjania’s  fourth venture  Finding Fanny.  The film a sequel to English Medium is a fresh take on the relationship between a father and daughter.  The daughter has one dream and that is to study abroad. How her father  fights a lone battle to send his dauther to study abroad is what the film is about.

Story.  The film is set in Udaipur where Champak Bansal (Irrfan), owner of 'The First Original Ghasiteram Mishthan Bhandar', lives with his family. His only  daughter Tarika (Radhika Madan), has always dreamt of going to study in a University abroad since she is a kid.  She finally gets a chance to go to London, her father decides to fulfill his daughters dream come what may.   Champak Bansal has a love hate relationship with his brother Gopi (Deepak Dobriyal).  The first half goes in introducing all the characters of the movie and establishes their bonding and relationships. The second  half takes off in full speed as to how Champak Bansal fights to  get his daughter into an University in London. He does not want to let go of his only daughter but yet he has to give her the freedom.  What are the difficulties he faces when he goes abroad, does his daughter realize his dilemma is what the film is about.

The film touches upon certain themes that parents face in India.  The fascination of the current generation on going abroad for higher studies, the generation gap and misunderstandings that  children have  with their parents.  How parents do not want to let go of their children as they have their own inhibitions.

Direction:  Homi Adjania once again comes out with his tounge in cheek humour. The dialogues are witty and make you laugh, at the same time there are emotional father and daughter scenes that brings tears to your eyes.  Homi touches on the emotional content very beautifully with  his scenes.  His study of human nature is so good that you wonder why he is making such few films.

Acting: Though Irrfan is going through an emotional upheaval with his real life illness, the actor is smooth and flawless as the doting father Champak.  At no time does he make you realize of his illness. You can see the same honesty and passion towards his work as  Hindi Medium.  Radhika Madan as the daughter is Impeccable.  The girl is really going places as far as her work is concerned. She seems to be choosing her films wisely.  Deepak Dobriyal after Omkara stands out in the film.  He is hilarious. We are sure that 2020 is going to be his year after all after watching his performance. Kareena Kapoor Khan makes the most of her role as Naina Kohli, a police officer, and Dimple Kapadia has given a fantastic performance as Mrs. Kohli.  Kiku Sharda, Pankaj Tripathi and Ranvir Shorey are good as usual.
Music: The background score is subper and lifts your  emotions as the film produces.
Overall:  Hope the Corono Virus scare does not keep the audiences away from the theatres as its  a superb watch over the weekend.  A great family outing is what you will enjoy over the weekend at the theatres.
